About
Tais Carmela Goncalves Palmieri
Carmela was born in Santos Dumont, Minas Gerais, Brazil. She studied Arts at
the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, graduating in 2004. She soon moved to Stuttgart,
Germany, where in mid-2005 she opened the art studio Atelier der aktivierten Seele
(Atelier of the Activated Soul) together with the photography studio Body of Art until mid-
2014, when she moved to the outskirts of Düsseldorf. There, she took over the creation
and management of the KreativHaus project, which focused on returning individuals to the
job market through Art. Over the years, Carmela has participated in several art exhibitions,
both solo and in groups, in Germany, Brazil and the United States.
Her work, always focused on the spiritual, psychological and natural spheres, addresses
conceptual themes of perception, transmutation, energetic reverberation, as well as
mythological and folkloric concepts from various cultures. Carmela works with a rich
chromatic range in various techniques, starting with projects in dry and oil pastels and
charcoal, but currently focusing on drawing, illustration and painting mainly with coloured
pencils and watercolours and, sometimes, acrylics.
The Sacred Feminine and the connection with the planet, natural elements such as lilies or
various other flowers and leaves, butterflies, and animals are guiding lines in her
compositions. A nature lover, Carmela dedicates herself with affection to botanical
illustrations and small studies of form and movement, observed in flora and fauna, from
their realism to their abstraction.
Besides her work in the visual arts, Carmela ventures to express her genuine faith and
love for nature in poems and short texts. In 2008, her most significant literary expression
emerged in the form of the book "The Owl's Call." The work, still only in Portuguese, has been
published by Atlantic Books in Lisbon, Portugal, and will be released in
Portugal, Brazil, and Angola. It will also be released in English in the near future. Currently
available to buy online in the store.
Currently living in Ireland, Carmela also transports this style of work beyond paper, wood
or fabric, using the skin as an expressive support for her Art through tattooing.
